Film Title Sequence

Design and direct an opening title sequence for a film that never had one. It should prepare and position the audience for the film that follows.

This project was entered in the AICP Camp Kuleshov 2018 Competition. It placed 2nd in the Midwest (Chicago) Graphics Category.

I chose There Will Be Blood from the list of films provided. My concept was to animate and cut stills in an edgy way to reflect the intense, percussive beat of the audio track. The constant use of black reflects the overall dark mood of the film and was intended to resemble oil dripping and splattering on the screen.

To create the video I took screenshots of still frames, animated and posterized them in After Effects, and edited an audio track from the film's soundtrack.
